📋 Research Review Process · How Studies Enter LongevLife

Research Review Process

Every study cited by LongevLife goes through a structured evaluation process. This page documents exactly how a study moves from PubMed to a LongevLife page.

Step-by-Step Review Process

1
Literature Search
PubMed search using MeSH terms for the specific topic. Filters applied: humans, English or Hebrew, published within last 10 years (last 5 years preferred). Initial search returns 50-500 results depending on topic.
Search engines: PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane Library
2
Title & Abstract Screen
Each result is screened by title and abstract. Studies are excluded if: animal only, review without original data, published in predatory journal, n<20, follow-up <4 weeks for supplement studies.
Typically 80-90% of initial results are excluded at this stage
3
Full Text Review
Remaining studies are read in full. Evaluated for: methodology quality (randomization, blinding, ITT analysis), sample demographics (relevant to target audience), conflict of interest disclosures, industry funding.
Industry-funded studies are included but labeled
4
Evidence Grading
Each study is assigned an evidence level (Tier 1-6) using the LongevLife Evidence Hierarchy. Key metrics extracted: effect size, sample size, p-value, confidence intervals, endpoints (surrogate vs hard).
5
DOI Verification
Every selected study must have a verifiable DOI link. The DOI is checked against the journal's official website. Studies without DOI or with broken DOIs are excluded.
100% DOI verification - no exceptions
6
Publication & Labeling
Study is published on relevant LongevLife page with: authors, journal, year, DOI link, PubMed ID, key finding summary, and evidence level label (Strong / Moderate / Preliminary).
Finding is written in our own words - no copyright infringement

  • Sample size n≥20 for interventional
  • DOI verifiable and active
  • Published within last 15 years (10 preferred)
  • Relevant to longevity or preventive health
  • Clear methodology reported
  • Effect size and statistical measures reported
❌ Exclusion Criteria
  • Animal-only studies (for human claims)
  • Preprints (not peer-reviewed)
  • Predatory journal publications
  • Case reports as evidence
  • Expert opinion without data
  • No conflict of interest disclosure
  • Retracted studies

Handling Conflicting Evidence

When studies conflict - and they often do - LongevLife:

  1. Presents both findings transparently, labeled by evidence level
  2. Favors systematic reviews and meta-analyses over individual studies
  3. Notes when the field has "conflicting evidence" and why
  4. Does not selectively cite only positive findings
  5. Updates pages when new evidence changes the consensus

Industry-Funded Research Policy

We acknowledge that industry-funded studies exist and are sometimes the only human RCT data available. LongevLife policy:
