The number of years you have lived

What it is: The degree of variation in red blood cell size.

How it is calculated: The PhenoAge formula (Levine et al., 2018) combines 9 biomarkers and age into a mortality model and converts it to biological age. The values are automatically converted to the units the formula requires (albumin to g/L, creatinine to µmol/L, glucose to mmol/L, CRP to mg/dL).
Biological age tries to reflect how young or old the body is functionally, as opposed to chronological age. PhenoAge estimates this from a biomarker pattern found to be linked to mortality risk in large population studies.
Which tests do I need?
All 9 biomarkers are found in routine tests: a blood count (MCV, RDW, WBC, lymphocytes), chemistry (albumin, creatinine, glucose, ALP), and a CRP test. It is recommended to measure glucose while fasting. Already have blood tests?
Why do the units matter?
The formula was calibrated to specific units. The calculator accepts the common units and converts them internally, to prevent errors.
The result is higher than my age, what should I do?
A high result is not a diagnosis. It is worth checking which markers are abnormal and consulting a doctor. Temporary inflammation, not fasting before the glucose test, or a data-entry error can all have an effect.
What is the difference between chronological and biological age?
Chronological age is the number of years you have lived. Biological age tries to reflect how young or old your body is functionally, based on blood biomarkers. Two 50-year-olds can have very different biological ages.
Where can biological age be tested?

What is metabolic age, and is it the same as biological age?
